Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a highly effective exfoliation procedure which involves the removal of the upper most layer of dead skin and vellus hair (or peach fuzz i.e. the tiny baby hairs) on a person’s face. This hair often causes a build-up of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing thehair gives you healthier looking skin. A sterile surgical scalpel is used for the procedure, similar to shaving and provides many immediate benefits to the skins appearance.

Skin feels and looks smoother and rejuvenated, as well as allowing deeper and more effective penetration of skincare products.  Dermaplane treatment is suitable for most skin types including dry skin. However, skin with acne should not be dealt with and breakouts should be clear before any treatment is done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can have dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with acne prone skin. If you have deep cystic acne, wait until breakouts are clear before trying this treatment.  As always discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities, before starting a treatment with your practitioner.  This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals absorbing into the blood stream and potentially harming your baby
Is there any down time or side effects?
There is little to no down time after your treatment, some redness and irritation can be present immediately after but will settle within a few hours.

You can continue your daily activities including wearing makeup, but it is advised to wait for the rest of the day for the best results.

After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation of the skin.

What are the anticipated results?
You will immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture.  All of your peach fuzz will be gone, and dry skin removed.

Dermaplaning can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles rejuvenating your skin. As well as this your skin care products will absorb better and your makeup sit nicer on your face.

How often can I have dermaplaning?
It is recommended that patients space treatments approximately 3 to 4 weeks apart for the best results as natural cell regrowth is around 30 days average
What does the treatment feel like?
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs but in this case,  it is on your face
Will the hair grow back any thicker?
No the hair on your face will not grow back any thicker as it is a different type of hair to that on your head.

I had derma-planing by Vicky and I can not recommend it enough! I didn’t realise how much of a difference removing the fuzz from my face would make to the look and feel of my skin! My face feels so much softer and my makeup applies smoother and lasts much longer! The procedure was pain free and Vicky ensured I was happy throughout! Thank you so much!
